The doctor should have clarified. If your kidneys are working properly there shouldn’t be any protein. Perhaps you should go see your own doctor.

Proteinuria (protein in your urine) can be a sign of many things from glomerulonephritis, renal failure secondary to diabetes or another cause, lupus, all the way to something honestly benign like simply doing alot of exercise. Proteinuria is really honestly nonspecific. If that’s all you’ve got, it may not be something to be too concerned about. Only your doctor knows your full clinical depiction, though.
